DeKalb County Parent is operated by Springer Creative Associates LLC. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information We Collect
Account registration
When you create an account, we collect your name and email address, and store a hashed version of your password. We never store your password in plain text.
Children's information
If you optionally add children to your profile, we store each child's first name and birth year. This information is used only to help personalize camp recommendations. We do not share it with third parties.
Newsletter subscriptions
If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address. Subscriptions are managed through Resend. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send.
Camp and organization submissions
If you submit a camp or register an organization, we collect the contact and program information you provide. This information may be displayed publicly on the site.
Usage data
When you view a camp listing, we record an anonymous view event (camp ID and timestamp) to power our trending camps feature. This data is not linked to your account or IP address.
Cookies
We use two types of cookies:
- Strictly necessary: A session cookie is set when you log in. It keeps you authenticated while you use the site and expires when you log out or after 30 days. This cookie cannot be disabled because the site would not function without it.
- Analytics (optional): With your consent, we load Google Analytics, which
sets cookies (
_ga,_ga_*) to count page visits and understand how people use the site. No analytics cookies are set unless you click "Accept" on the cookie banner.
You can change your cookie preference at any time by clearing your browser's local storage for this site, which will show the cookie banner again on your next visit.
How We Use Your Information
- To create and maintain your account
- To send newsletters and updates you signed up for
- To display camp and organization listings you submit
- To surface trending camps based on anonymous view activity
- To communicate with you about your account or submissions
We do not sell your personal information to anyone, ever.
Data Sharing
We share data only with the third-party services required to run the site:
- Resend — email delivery and newsletter list management
- Railway — hosting for the site, API, and database
Each of these providers has their own privacy policy and is responsible for the data they process on our behalf.
Data Retention
We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. Anonymous camp view data older than 30 days is not used in trending calculations and may be purged periodically. If you would like your account or data deleted, contact us at the email below.
Children's Privacy
This site is intended for use by parents and caregivers, not children directly. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 13. The child profile feature (name and birth year) is entered by a parent or guardian and is not shared publicly.
Your Choices
- Account data: You can update your name and email from your profile page.
- Children's profiles: You can add or remove child profiles from your account at any time.
- Newsletter: Unsubscribe at any time via the link in any email.
- Account deletion: Email us and we will delete your account and associated data.
